ITU Sustainability Office was the guest of this week's Sustainable Living School podcast series with Aslı Dede, which aims to raise the desire to take action in all segments of society by drawing attention to the projects that act with the slogan "Our planet needs heroes and each of us can be heroes" and that creates benefits for this. ITU Faculty of Architecture Faculty Member and Sustainable Development Certificate Program Coordinator Prof. Dr. Hatice Ayataç was interviewed about the office's work in line with the goals of the "Sustainable Campus" and Sustainable Development Certificate Program. While talking about the projects carried out by ITU Sustainability Office, which has adopted the mission of integrating sustainability as a basic principle in all fields of education, research and management at Istanbul Technical University, since its establishment, attention was also drawn to the targets that are desired to be achieved in the future. In this context, Prof. Dr. Hatice Ayataç stated that the framework of the Sustainability Master's and Doctorate program has been established and that a new program has been prepared that appeals to almost all departments and includes courses on social issues as well as engineering.
In addition, the necessity of the Sustainable Development Certificate Program, which is perhaps one of the most important activities of the office, was emphasized.
Prof. Dr. Hatice Ayataç emphasized that addressing sustainability only in terms of resource use and environmental management will no longer be limited and that there is a need for experts who will ensure that its economic and social dimensions are addressed as well as spatial.

Some of the knowledge, skills, and competencies aimed to be acquired by the participants within the scope of this program are summarized below:
- To learn about sustainability and the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, Global Principles, and conventions,
- To be able to measure and evaluate energy efficiency, water use, and waste management within the scope of sustainable daily practices,
- Gaining the ability to analyze the risks arising from climate change,
- To learn efficient economic methods to improve the economic continuity of institutions and organizations,
- To learn about sustainability standards and other relevant standards and legal regulations,
- Gaining the knowledge and skills they will need while performing their duties as a sustainability expert,
- Evaluation of technology and innovation support and process improvement methods, especially with successful sample applications.
While conveying the necessary tools, skills, and strategies for the Sustainable Development Specialization Training Program to implement the sustainability principles with an innovative and inclusive perspective; It was underlined that successful application examples of the sector would also be included in the process.
