In line with its vision of “transforming the future” in its 250th year, Istanbul Technical University continues to be a stakeholder in environmentally friendly, sustainable projects. The international student competition titled Upcycling Design: From Construction Waste to Sculpture Design, organized in collaboration with ITU Landscape Architecture Department and Benesta, a construction company operating in Turkey, was held for the first time this year with the theme of “Rubbles come to life again in art”.

The award ceremony of the competition was held at Benesta Benleo Acıbadem with the participation of ITU Landscape Architecture Department faculty member Prof. Dr. Gülşen Aytaç, sculptor Asaf Erdemli, Benesta General Manager Roksana Diker and competing students.

Following the final presentations of the students’ design work, four of our students won awards, decided by representatives from the company team and the jury. At the end of the competition, the first place award went to Esra Balcı, a student from the Department of Industrial Design, with her work titled “Safe Place.” The second place award went to Melisa Yurdakul, a student from the Department of Landscape Architecture, with her work titled “Sculpture of Relax,” Berra Kafalıer, a student from the Department of Landscape Architecture, with her work titled “Merge,” and Selin Kaya, a student from the Department of Industrial Design, with her work titled “Flow Sculpture.”

We congratulate our students and wish them continued success.
