At the ceremony attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, Durmuş Ünüvar, the Director General of Coastal Safety, Captain Salih Zeki Çakır, the Chairman of the Council of the Chamber of Shipping (IMEAK DTO), Captain Arif Bostan, the Chairman of the Board of the Turkish Maritime Federation (TÜRDEF), Cem Melikoğlu, the Chairman of the Board of Turkish Lloyd (Türk Loydu), as well as representatives from maritime NGOs and leading maritime companies, Captain Ufuk Teker, Chairman of the Board of DEFAMED YDO, emphasized that the Mentorship and Tutorial Center would primarily reinforce the sense of mentorship, fraternity, and brotherhood, which are indispensable elements of maritime education and profession.

Teker pointed out that the center, situated in the dormitory building, would bring together alumni and their student siblings. He stated, "We expect our student siblings to draw on the experience and wisdom of their elder brothers and sisters, both in terms of their professional development and maritime traditions and customs." Teker also mentioned that the center would become a meeting point between students and industry stakeholders for short and long-term internships.
