“Women in Maritime Sector” workshop, organized by Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Maritime and Piri Reis University Maritime Faculty, was moderated by President of the Marine Culture Association Ayşe Olcay and attended by our Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata, Piri Reis University Rector Prof. Dr. Oral Erdoğan, ITU Faculty of Maritime Dean Prof. Dr. Özcan Arslan, Piri Reis University Maritime Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Şebnem Helvacıoğlu, GEMİMO Chairman of the Board of Directors Feramuz Aşkın, Turkish Unlimited Masters Association (TÜRKKAPDER) Executive Board Chairman Captain Zafer Akbulut, representatives of the sector and students.

Making the opening speech of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Şebnem Helvacıoğlu expressed the significance and historical background of March 8, International Women’s Day. Afterwards GEMİMO Chairman of the Board of Directors Feramuz Aşkın shared statistics regarding female-male employment ratios and emphasized the importance of women in the maritime sector.
