The project titled “Utilization of Agricultural Wastes via Anaerobic Digestion: From Biogas to Carboxylates”, carried out under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Orhan İnce, a faculty member of the Environmental Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Civil Engineering, was completed on August 17, 2023.
The project, supported by the ERANet-LAC Multi-Cooperation Programme of the European Union and the Latin American and Caribbean Countries Joint Innovation and Research Activities Network, focuses on one of the most important environmental problems: the improper disposal of agricultural waste.
Within the scope of the research carried out under the main leadership of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) based in Germany, in partnership with Istanbul Technical University (Turkey), the Federal Institute of Goiás (Brazil) and ESPOL Polytechnic University (Ecuador), various agricultural wastes and different strategies were investigated to ensure the transition from anaerobic digestion to anaerobic fermentation in the treatment process, and the potential for the production of carboxylates with high economic value was investigated and important scientific results were presented.
